Analysts nod sagely and talk about air defense saturation rates, radar cross-sections, and electronic warfare envelopes. Everyone is arguing about the wrong metric.

For decades, the core assumption of major powers was that strategic depth equaled safety. If your capital is located hundreds of miles away from the front lines, you are insulated from the mess. The Uncomfortable Truth About Attrition

Let us be entirely candid about the downside of the contrarian view here.

Accepting that you cannot shoot your way out of a mass-drone problem means accepting that some infrastructure will burn. It means admitting that a zero-casualty, zero-damage defense is a mathematical impossibility unless you are willing to bankrupt your own state treasury before your adversary runs out of budget.

The real solution to long-range cheap drone saturation is not found in the skies above Moscow or St Petersburg. It is found thousands of miles away, sitting quietly in a small workshop or a suburban garage where the components are being soldered together, or further upstream where the microchips and electronic components clearing customs are quietly monitored.

If you wait until the airframe is five miles outside your city limits to figure out how to stop it, you have already lost the economic war.
