This effect is made in two programs, Cinema 4D and Photoshop. If you haven’t heard of Cinema 4D before it is a relatively easy to use 3d application, it is quite similar to 3dsMax or Maya. While browsing for import, it shows file sequences as one line item instead of a long list of files. Immigration uses a custom algorithm to scan the file system at speeds dramatically faster than even the OS can. In our testing a server folder with 30,000 files that takes over 5 minutes to open in the finder opens in 12 seconds in Immigration (and that includes file-sequence detection!). If you frequently find yourself waiting for the OS to open folders then you will love Immigration. Tutorial LINK HERE

Although this video uses AE CS4, the tracker’s controls have been largely unchanged over the last several versions, so this will also be of use to those using other recent vintages of AE. The tracker in AE is much-maligned (and AE CS4 now comes bundled with mocha for After Effects as an alternative), but once you know the secrets of how the track points work and how to set its options, it works fine for a large variety of shots.” LINK HERE

Breathe, Deer: Adding Layers of footage

by Steve Holmes, Energi Design
(www.clickenergi.com)

Use the full 4K resolution of an Artbeats RED footage clip of a deer in a forest, to create the effect of a zoom lens finding and focusing on the animal. Add in thick, falling snow, adjust the temperature from spring to winter, and add the effect of the deer's breath being visible in the cold air, and see how you can turn a simple effect into a complex scene.

You’ve surely seen a “light painting” photograph by now. Sprint made it very popular in their latest advertising campaign, but it’s been around for a long time, Picasso made a light painting in 1949. In this tutorial Ben shows us how to easily recreate this effect using particles in After Effects.

In this cast, Nick goes over the basic tools for creating and modifying shapes into objects. Ever wanted to start to build objects to use in your 3D comps? Use these basic tools to create almost any object or item. Stay tuned… In the next lesson, we will start to build simple objects with these techniques.

While most modern NLE systems ship with standard wipe transitions, there are some transition styles that are more of an in-camera effect rather than a synthesized gradient wipe or block dissolve. One of these effects, known as a “Swish Pan,” is created by panning the camera very quickly in a 180 degree arc, creating the look of a fast blur between the outgoing and incoming clips. Continuing in the tradition of making visual effects easy to create, Boris Continuum Complete 6 AE now includes a Swish Pan transition filter which is available free for registered BCC 6 AE users. In this video tutorial, we’ll use the new BCC 6 Swish Pan filter to transition between a pair of clips. LINK HERE
It’s important to have strategies and techniques for the earlier stages of scene development that facilitate a smoother workflow. The less time you spend waiting for renders during the early phases of a project, the more time you’ll have for fine-tuning and testing, resulting in better final results for your project. In this article, we’ll take an overview of some of the different tools and techniques that are available in Blender to help you be more efficient with your preview rendering. LINK HERE

They’re not hard to create, you can get professional lenses and tripods to make some killer panoramics. I created this image using a digital camera on a tripod, taking a picture each time I rotate the camera a few degrees. I then used Photoshop’s Photomerge feature to create the image below out of 25 individual pictures.

“Via Sebastien Perier, a top contributor to After Effects Community Help, is DuDuF IK Tools for After Effects, a free script that does Inverse Kinematics (IK). The script is from Duik Tools, a website in French (English translation).

Sebastien says it seems pretty decent, and that you can even add bones to puppet pins. For specifics see the Overview and Help sections.”
