So if you haven't heard the latest, After Effects Seattle is having its first meetup, and well... it has been a long time coming. I actually tried to start up this group about a year ago, but life tends to get in the way when you have kids, but the fine folks at Adobe stepped in and took hold of the reins, so now we are going to be able to put this thing on the right way! (more after the jump)

So the way this is going to work is that dependant upon how popular this first meetup is, is going to impact how much we are going to have meetings… whether they are monthly or bi-monthly or whatever. Now, this meetup is a meetup only! But there will be drinks and food for everyone, and if you from Seattle or the surrounding areas, you can meet your fellow AE artists from the area, network, and just all around have a good time.

You can get the details on the Adobe After Effects Facebook page. I encourage you to respond to the event invite, so that we know how much food and drink to have on hand so everyone can have fun and be taken care of. The address of the event is 801 N 34th St (the Adobe office in Fremont), and takes place from 7pm-10pm. Bring your friends, colleagues, or just anyone you know that uses After Effects.

Make sure you RSVP at the link above! We would love to see you there! If anything, make sure you become a fan of them on Facebook to get updates of when the next meetings will be!

Alright, so for the last couple of months, I have been trying to figure out a way to make it to NAB, and finally the perfect opportunity fell into my lap! I will be at NAB this year, not only to hang out... but to REPORT and INTERVIEW from the show floor! Thanks to AEtuts+, I will be hanging around speaking with some of the top tut creators from our industry... (more after the jump)

And I will be hitting up vendors, and checking out all the cool gadgetry that will be happening at the show. Expect a lot of cool stuff from the show floor, and if you can’t make it to NAB, it is my job to fill the void for you! I will be posting directly to AEtuts+ so make sure you stay tuned to there from April 12th through the 14th.

If you are a vendor that would like to have an interview done, or if you are a tutorial creator, or just someone who would like to meet up, email me to set up a time, and we can do a little chit chat and a quick interview! This is going to be huge, and I am hoping to meet tons of amazing people! Personally, I think the people I am most excited for are going to be my friends that I have been in contact with for the last couple years, fellow tut creators around the web, but I will make sure I have a vast range of cool tech to show you.

I am going to be attending the Adobe Party, Media Motion Ball, and the Red Giant Software Pool Party, so if you are going to be at any of those, make sure you look out for me, and don’t be shy to tap me on the shoulder and introduce yourself! I want to meet all of you!

Again, a huge thanks to AEtuts+ for making this possible, and you guys are in for a big treat!

In the first instance, he uses an image mask in Final Cut Pro to colour correct the image and applies a pitch shift to change the voice.

In the second instance he uses a blur filter and an 8-point garbage matte to blur out the characters voice. He then shows you how to use the ‘paste attributes’ setting in Final Cut Pro to apply an audio effect created on a previous clip to this new clip.

Finally, he uses After Effects to motion track a number of black bars across the distinguishing features of his witness under protection.

After you click through over to ProJuice.org’s website, you can watch the tutorial in standard definition or high definition.

It’s the term used for displays that are found in train stations and airports, where they typically display departure and/or arrival information and do that cool flipping of letters to display the new information. This tutorial does not show how to create the effect from scratch but instead it is a tutorial to explain how to use the project file created by Mattias Peresini who runs the totally awesome mattrunks website which has incredible tutorials for After Effects in French. We are very happy to have Mattias doing his first English tutorial for us here at Aetuts+. LINK HERE
This tutorial will focus on using a new plugin that brings 3D bicubic deformations to layers that allows you to truly bend and twist layers in 3D space. If you are familiar with 3D packages, this is true displacement as opposed to just bump mapping. LINK HERE

This technique is useful for making bumps on a dinosaur’s back, a serrated knife blade, or a spiked mace head. In this tutorial we will construct our particle system and integrate it seamlessly with FumeFX in order to make a very powerful velocity based effect. This will be the first tutorial that will be exclusively hosted on the new site, www.ParticleFlow.net . Using the MoGraph Displace Deformer this is actually quite a simple thing. First of all you need a mesh to displace, then make the Displace Deformer a child of the mesh. Well, as it is a deformer, you could place it in the same level of hierarchy, in a null for instance, but you knew that already! You also need a spline of some kind. This will work with parametric splines too. LINK HERE

Mixed lighting on a photo can cause portions of the image to be too bright or too dark, fortunately Photoshop gives us some great tools to take care of these types of issues. Using a levels adjustment layer in combination with a color range selection, Richard is able to greatly control the lighting in a photo. The equalize command is also covered in this video tutorial.
