events like meetups from all around the world, conventions, expos, classes, free and paid events, and pretty much anything else in between. There are some other places around the net that I get some of my information, so I would like to thank Planet5D.com and HDSLRShooter.com for providing awesome coverage of HDSLR events around the world. Definitely check their sites out!

To find the Event Calendar, just go to the top Menu, and under Events>Event Calendar you will find it!

I want to make this the most extensive calendar on the web for our niche of the creative realm, so if you have some kind of event in your city, whether it be a local film festival, little meetup, a talk-shop session, or whatever, PLEASE let me know! I will add it to the calendar immediately! Let this be the community calendar where everyone can come and find out what to do in their city that week!

Are Sites Like Video Copilot and Motionworks Creating Deadwood?

Well all I can say after something like that is… well… it’s sad. This hits me kind of hard, because I make tutorials, and so do a lot of my friends like Andrew and John. It isn’t their fault, or mine, or any tutorial author for that matter, if some person out there takes the project file verbatim and turns it in as their own work. It’s not the fact that there isn’t room from creative expression, experimentation, or whatever other the excuse they like to use. The fact is, they don’t want to put the effort into being creative for themselves. Sometimes it can get hard to crank some really awesome original work out after watching 4 or 5 hours of tutorials… so if that is a problem…. THEN STOP WATCHING TUTORIALS! Tuts are here for a few reasons, the main being that we like to help out the community… we like to teach people. Other reasons being, yes… they are a great marketing tool, you can make some money, they are popular, but the main reason is that we like to help.

When you say that demo reels and the BBC are using project files from tutorials, I agree with you… it is wrong and they shouldn’t pass that off as their own. But to blame the teachers for what their students are doing… that is wrong. Like I said, if you have a problem with it, don’t watch. It’s not our fault if you can’t be creative by yourself. There is never an end to the supply of techniques that haven’t been used or discovered yet, and just like people who “use deadlines, lack of experience, and so on” you are using the same excuses to blame why it is hard for you to be creative on your own merit.

I actually got a chance to look at this collection before it was released, and HOLY crap.. it is pretty awesome. TONS of stock elements, project files, and animations. You have to check out the trailer after clicking the images to really see what I am talking about. GO DO IT!

We Have a New Baby! (Why I’ve Been Gone…)

You guys might have seen the congratulations post that my buddy Adam put up over on AEtuts+ on Friday for us, and if you commented… thank you so much, it means loads to me and my family. We are steadily getting into the groove of having two kids, and Brennan, our 2 1/2 year old son is slowly warming up to Maddox. I think he is going to enjoy having a baby brother. You guys might recognize the pictures from the AEtuts+ post, but that is all I really have on the computer at the time. There is lots of video, so expect a short coming up soon. For now, here are a couple of pics to tide you over.
