Michael Park’s Practical Particles Review & Giveaway!

Now, it’s no mystery that the most popular of all plugins out in the After Effects world are the Trapcode plugins, and what better to go along with that than a brand spankin’ new training title for Trapcode Particular? Michael Park released a DVD in the Creative COW Master Series about a month ago, and I actually probably would have gotten you this review a bit sooner, but I was in the process of moving. Not fun. So, without further ado, I give you Practical Particles!

First impression when I check out the DVD… it is laid out well, you have your start HTML page, which is usually standard, where you can navigate to all of the lessons on the page, and then choose to access the project files, preview video (A MUST with training DVDs) and then obviously… watch the tutorial. Michael does a good job of zipping through the tutorial, with no umm’s or uhh’s (something I am notorious for)… you can tell he has scripted his tutorials, which is good because these are pretty in depth, and he keeps all the tutorials under 30 minutes each.

Another thing I really like about the DVD is he actually recreates some popular effects like the Harry Potter Priori Incantatum effect, 24 motion graphics, and the Star Trek transporting effect. There are also some other handy motion graphics techniques, that may seem a bit simple but all use some unique procedures, so you are guaranteed to learn something even if you can already work out how it is basically done in your head.

Overall, I think this is a pretty rad DVD for beginners and advanced Trapcode Particular users alike. I mean, you can never have enough techniques in your toolbox, so if you have an extra $50 laying around, I would pick it up, especially if you are a beginner with Trapcode Particular.
